Ineke Hans

Ineke Hans was born in the Netherlands in 1966. After graduating at the Royal College of Art in London in 1995, and working for three years for Habitat UK she set up her design office INEKEHANS/ARNHEM in 1998 in Arnhem, Holland.

Initially she produced her own collections which she presented at fairs and side-events. Since 2005 the focus is mainly on industrial design and commissions.
In her studio she works with a small team on a wide range of 3d projects. Furniture, products and jewellery come as one-offs, small batch products, or as mass-produced items. The studio collaborates with international companies like: Royal Ahrend, Arco, Cappellini, Chi ha paura...?, Lensvelt, Magis, Offecct, RoyalVKB, Swarovski, van Esch. Next to that they work on exhibitions and some architectural projects.

Ineke Hans' work is often clear and almost graphical. Early work centred around pictograms and archetypes but her designs have evolved in many ways, acquiring the identity most clearly of a designer, with the impulses of a sculptor, and the industrial experience needed to define products with a commercial life.

Ineke Hans investigates the psychological roots of products, perceiving and playing with the interaction between people, objects and space. Old and brand new production methods are used in intelligent and unconventional ways. Innovation in materials and techniques and re-thinking of existing human values and habits have become most important triggers for new work and make it multi layered and playful.

In 2009 she was nominated 'Guest of Honour' at the Stockholm Furniture Fair. Her work has won many design awards, such as Red Dot awards in 2005, 2006, 2010 and Design Plus awards in 2006, 2007, 2010.

Her designs are purchased by leading collectors and museums, a.o. Art Institute Chicago, Musée des Arts Décoratives Paris, Nationalmuseet Stockholm, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Victoria and Albert Museum London.

In 2003 'Black Bazaar – design dilemma's' by 010-publishers came out on her work.

In 2010 'MIND-SETS' was published in cooperation with Walter Bettens (DAMnº Magazine). Both publications contain reviews on her work by international writers and give insight in her work and ways of thinking.
